EU/International collaboration in Södertälje – the international capital.
With its distinctive character and history, Södertälje is fully justified in calling itself Sweden's international capital. We take part in international work processes and play an active role in the EU community. Södertälje's current place in the world is partly shaped to the presence of two world-leading companies and a population with origins in a large number of different countries. This international characteristic is a defining part of Södertälje's identity and strength.
Municipal executive board
In Södertälje all municipal activities - including those of municipal companies - are influenced by an international policy. This policy is the distillation of Södertälje Municipality's plan of international work. The plan divides the work into two strategic areas and outlines the work's management and organisation:
- Strategy area 1: EU
- Strategy area 2: Other international work
The International Affairs Department's overall objectives are:
- Provide advisory services, information, knowledge exchange and support the operations, councillors and companies with EU project development funding??; from idea to completed application
- Monitor EU decisions that directly influence the municipality's key objectives and monitor EU funds and programmes
- Lead pan-municipal international projects
The International Affairs Department's tasks also include:
- Encourage and support the municipal departments and companies involvement in EU affairs
- Look for possible funding channels for municipal projects and the group
- Handle continuous reporting and feedback about the ongoing EU work
- Create information and knowledge-exchange channels and EU-related training programmes
- Collaborate with external players, e.g. by getting involved in external networks such as SEU, EFFEKNET and SEUS.
- Draw up annual work plans for the department
- Lead sister town cooperation work and collaboration projects with municipalities in other countries
- Manage internal networks. This could include working with project managers of various departmental EU projects.
