The municipality of Södertälje has five Twin Towns. Like most of the Swedish towns, Södertälje has old relations with towns in the Nordic countries, i.e. Sarpsborg in Norway, Struer in Denmark, Forssa in Finland.
In the east Pärnu in Estonia is a Twin Town since 1991. In the south Angers in France made a twinning partner in September 2001.
Sarpsborg in Norway is situated not far from Oslo. Sarpsborg has 50 000 inhabitants. The town Bethlehem is one of their other Twin Towns and there is a Sarpsborg-Bethlehem association. There is an annual exchange of pupils and teachers between the Nordic TwinTowns.
Struer in Denmark has 19 000 citizens and is close to Limfjorden in Jylland. The famous business Bang and Olufsen Company is situated in the town. There is an annual exchange of pupils and teachers.
Forssa in Finland is situated 100 kilometres east of Åbo. 19 000 people live in the town. Forssa is known for its textile industry. Södertälje and Forssa have established contacts between some schools.
Pärnu in Estonia is the summer capital of the country. The town is situated about 130 kilometres south-east from Tallinn. The town has a beautiful beach and several spas. In the winter there are about 45 000 people, in the summer 300 000-400 000.
Södertälje and Pärnu are from summer 2001 to summer 2002 working together with a tourist project, financed by Sida. There is also school twinning.
Angers in France is a town with 260 000 inhabitants. Scania, making trucks, has a modern industry in the town. Two universities and famous museums make Angers an interesting town. Södertälje and Angers work with contacts between pre-schools and schools and exchange of students in upper secondary schools and universities.
